The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), says flooding has destroyed 14,496 farms in five Local Government areas of Kano State.
The Director General NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed Habib, made the disclosure during an ‘on the spot’ assessment tour of communities ravaged by flood in Warawa and Wudil Local Government of the state.
He listed the affected communities which include:Warawa Gishiri Wuya 1,113 farms were washed away, Larabar Gadon Sarki 1,135 farms, Wudil 4,808 farms were washed away by flood.
Other affected areas include: Bebeji 1,405 farms, Rano 260 farms and Dawakin Kudu Local Government 5,775 farms were affected.
According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari, directed that assessment of damages caused by flood be conducted immediately.
“We came for an assessment at Wudil Local Government, Gishiri Wuya and Larabar Gadon Sarki but due to the nature of the road in Gishiri Wuya we have to stop here”
The DG ,said the assessment report would be compiled and submitted to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development for onward submission to President Buhari.
He pointed out that, the Federal Government would intervene into the matter as soon as possible as it is an emergency that requires immediate intervention.
On his part, the Executive Secretary Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Saleh Jili, said that the increase of farm flood was as a result of the spillway of Tiga Dam.
Speaking on behalf of the victims, Malam Nasiru Qayya, appealed to the Federal Government to assist them and also repair their road from Ladin Makole to Larabar Gadon Sarki Warawa Local Government.

Radio Nigeria reports that, few days ago the popular Tiga dam overflowed its banks, and flooded Kiru, Kura, Bebeji Wudil Rano,Warawa and Dawakin Kudu local government areas ,where thousands of farmlands were submerged.
