A Bauchi based legal practitioner, Gambo Yakubu Wakili has expressed concern over the increasing number of youth in Nigerian Correctional Centers.
She gave the indication at a two day training of youth on Fundermental Human Rights organized by Voice Of Nigeria in collaboration with Kings Leodews Initiatives, held in Bauchi.
Gambo Wakili expressed regret over the high number of youths engaging in criminal activities, attributing it to injustice, bad governance and poor knowledge of foundamental human rights.
While presenting a paper titled “Conflict Resolution Human Rights Protection in Protest Situation as well as Duties of Police and Other Law Enforcement Agencies in Protest Situation”, the legal practitioner called on all stakeholders to take necessary steps towards finding lasting solution to the problem.
In a remark the Chief Executive Officer of Kings Leodews Initiatives Chinemerem Onyeji noted that the organization was out to train youth on improved livelihood and extend its hands of fellowship to people with special needs.
Chinemerem explained that the organization targeted five hundred youths and people with special needs to undergo training on various skills to make them self reliant.
Some of the perticipants spoken to Osechuku Favour and Zainab Idis expressed satisfaction with the training and promised to put what they have learnt into practice.
The theme of the training is, “Peace and Conflict Resolution Plus Foudamental Human Rights Without Discrimination By Reason of Race, Origin, Religion or Gender”.
