MALNUTRITION LEADS TO OVER 45% OF DEATHS AMONG UNDER FIVE CHILDREN-OFFICIAL

Declaring open a one day workshop in nutrition proficiency, the special adviser to Kano state governor on health services management, Dr. Fauziyya Buba Idris said the training was organized by the Kano state government in collaboration with SAM pharmaceutical,held in kano

She noted that the workshop would identify and profer lasting solution to child nutrition defects.

Dr. Fauziyya who was represented by the director, planning and statistics Dr. Aminu Jibril explained that the Kano state government will not relent in it’s efforts of training and retraining of healthcare personnel to achieve the desired objectives.

She pointed out that, participants were drawn from 23 secondary healthcare facilities across the state to ensure that malnutrition is reduced to the lowest Percentage.

In his remarks, representative of SAM pharmaceutical, Dr. John Nuttes, said nutritional deficient foods leads to malnutrition in young children.

He described impacts of global burden of malnutrition as serious and lasting for individuals and families, communities and countries.

Presenting their papers titled’ Malnutrition’ and ‘ Adequate nutrition’ a senior medical officer, Dr. Ibrahim and Auwal Musa Umar said about 45% of deaths among children under five years of age are linked to under nutrition.

They maintained that adequate nutrition is necessary not only for energy but also for proper growth and development of a strong immunity in children.

The workshop tagged ‘One day workshop on nutrition proficiency’ attracted large turn out of government officials,healthcare professional and all relevant stakeholders in the health sector.
