The Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission Malam Balarabe Shehu Ilelah has called on Broadcasters a cross the Nation to be cautious and careful when airing issues related to National Security.
Malam Balarabe Shehu Ilelah disclosed this during a one day meeting with states Commissioner of information, and Chief Executive Officers of Broadcast Stations in Nigeria held in Kano.
He said the commission was disturbed with the rate at which many broadcasting station were indebted to the commission in terms of payments and renewal of their licences.
Malam Balarabe Shehu Ilelah Appealed broadcasting stations to ensure timely payment of the license fees ,geared towards achieving the stated objectives.
He noted that those broadcasting stations that were yet to settle their license fees would have up to 9th September 2023 to do so or face the consequences of their licence revoked.
” Any Broadcasting station that have already have provisional license and were unable to use it for the duration of two years is Automatically revoked “
The Director General added that the commission was aware of the current challenges the broadcasting stations are facing especially high cost of operations and other logistics, yet their obligations needed to be discharged diligently.
High lights of the event includes discussions , suggestions on how to move the broadcasting industry forward.
