NBTE calls for adoption of NSQF to bridge manpower skills gap in the northeast.

The National Board for Technical Education NBTE has urged Vocational and Technical based higher institutions of learning in the northeast to embrace the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework NSQF towards addressing manpower skills gap in the sub region.

The Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework NSQF is a system that affords the informal vocational centres the opportunity to have their unskilled artisans be trained at various vocational training institutions without requisite credentials of learning for admission.

The Executive Secretary NBTE Professor Idris Bugaje made the call at a one day sensitisation workshop on NSQF for Senior Staff of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi organised by the board in collaboration with the polytechnic.

Professor Idris Bugaje represented by the Northeast Zonal Director of the board Malam Hussaini Muhammad said institutions in the southern part of the country have gone far in terms of implementation of the framework, hence the need for them to take drastic measures towards bridging the gap.

While calling on the vocational training institutions in the sub region to send their lecturers and other staff for trainings on the framework, the Executive Secretary commended ATAP for being the first to organise the NSQF workshop in the northeast.

Earlier, the Rector of Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi Dr Adamu Saidu restated commitment to commence implementation of the NSQF for the benefit of teeming unskilled artisans in the state and beyond.

Dr Adamu Saidu who said the system aims to award artisans without formal education a recognised academic certificate, noted that such policy would add value to the nation’s economy.

He charged the participants to pay attention to the various presentations to enable them step down the knowledge gained to other colleagues for the successful implementation of the framework.

In a vote of thanks, the Registrar of the institution Malam Abdullahi Alhaji Adamu appreciated NBTE for its continued support and encouragement to the polytechnic to achieve it set targets.

The workshop was sponsored by the polytechnic to sensitise it’s management and selected academics on the content of the NSQF for smooth implementation.
