The North East Development Commission NEDC in collaboration with Yola Electricity Distribution Company YEDC has organised eight weeks training for sixty electrical technicians.
Managing Director of the Commission Alhaji Mohammed Alkali said the training is to create job opportunities for youths across the six states in the region.
Addressing the participants at the NEDC headquarters in Maiduguri, Alhaji Alkali said the Commission will partner with the Mainstream Academy in Kainji, Niger state to enhance the skills of the unemployed youths with requisite qualification and fill the existing vacancies in the geopolitical zone.
He noted that the unbundling of the power sector by the federal government and subsequent retrenchment of some personnel of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), created a vacuum on manpower needs throughout the country.

The Managing Director said the Commission has been collaborating with stakeholders in public and private sectors to enhance technical skills of unemployed youths in the region, to enable them compete favourably with their counterparts in other parts of the country.
He cautioned participants against indulging in any form of vices and concentrate on the training to better their lives.
