A Non Governmental Organisation, Sickle Cell Self Help Initiative in Collaboration with Darul Aafiah Hospital have commenced free medical checks for people in Bauchi metropolis.
The exercise is to cover Sickles Cell Screening, Genotype testing and counseling, and general consultation among others.
The Chairperson of the NGO Fatima Musa Bayero stated this during the commencement of the free medical services at Darul Aafiah Hospital in Nassarawa, Yakubun Bauchi road.
Fatima Bayero said the exercise which cut across all ages and genders was aimed at providing the opportunity for people to know their genotype status and to avoid couple mismatch in marriage.
She said the importance of genotype test and screening cannot be underestimated in view of the agonies being experienced by sickle cell patients and their families, hence the need for them to offer such humanitarian services.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Rayyanatu Muhammad Bawa said the free medical service was targeting over one thousand people in view of the fact that over fifty individuals troop to the facility daily to access their services.
Dr. Rayyanatu Bawa who urged people to use the opportunity to get screened and tested, noted that the exercise will end this coming Friday.
She disclosed that the hospital was also offering fifty percent discount for all services being rendered throughout the blessed month of Ramadan.
