Nigerian Erosion Management Agency commends Youth Organization in Gombe state For Tree Planting

The Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Management Project NEWMAP has commended youth in Gombe state for embarking on campaign against desertification.
Gombe state Coordinator of the Project Alhaji Ibrahim Garba made the commendation when he led NEWMAP officials to the Association’s farms in Akko and Kwami local governments.
Engineer Mohammed Garba said tree planting is a welcome idea especially at this time and in this region that is facing desert encroachment, Adding that it is the first of its kind in the state.
He therefore urged other youth groups in the state to copy from the association to help in protecting their environment and generate income for themselves.
The coordinator however promised to provide two Boreholes in order to provide enough water to the trees.
Speaking during the visit, the natural resources officer, NEWMAP, Gombe, Mohammed Musa Aliyu said they will help the association with new methods to bust their harvest.
Earlier speaking the chairman, association of youth for environmental protection and tree planting initiatives, Ibrahim Aliyu, who thanked Gombe state NEWMAP for the visit, said the association has more than 4000 trees in the farm of over 20 hectares.
The association’s secretary, Mohammed Ismail, urged the state government to support the Association in it’s efforts to make gombe green as well as create employment for the teaming youths.
