The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr. Isa Ali Pantami says Nigeria has in recent years witnessed huge transformation and acceleration in its economic development through the accessibility of Information and Communication Technologies ICTs provided by the Federal Government.
Dr. Isa Pantami stated this while delivering a Keynote address at the Second, School of Science and Technology National Conference 2021, held at the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, represented by the Managing Director Galaxy Backbone LTD, Professor Muhammad Bello Abubakar said a significant number of today’s ICTs were tools of the country’s Digital Economy infrastructure being promoted by the Federal Government’s Digital Economy Policy and Strategy.
The Minister assured that his ministry would link The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi with the current Metro Fibre Connectivity, an ICT Infrastructure project being executed across the country by Galaxy Backbone to ease research and innovation.
The Dean Faculty of Life Sciences who is also the Lead Paper presenter at the conference, Professor Mohammed Nasir Shu’aibu who highlighted some key issues that can lead the country to achieve SDGs to include conducive atmosphere, adequate funding, right attitude and ethics as well as genuine interest to conduct research.
He added that unless institutions of higher learning and industries synergise to translate research into solving problems the SDGs would remain unmet.
Also speaking, the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Farouq II, represented by the Vice Chancellor ATBU, Prof Muhammadu Ahmad Abdulazeez advised teachers and lecturers to introduce alternative ways of teaching their students, aimed at aiding ease assimilation especially on how to solve problems.
