Norwagian government collaborates with Gombe state on reproductive health rights for women and adolescent girls.

Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, has received the First Secretary, Norwagian Government on a working visit to Gombe State, assuring him of continued collaboration towards the well being of the people in the state.

Receiving the Norwagian Delegation in company of United Nations Fund For Population Activities, UNFPA, Representative in his office, the Deputy Governor commended their immense support to Gombe State, pointing out that their contributions have impacted a lot on the lives of the people, especially, in the area of health and education.

Dr. Manassah Jatau attributed the success of collaboration with partners and achievements to the strong political will of the government and the goodwill it received from the well meaning people including Development Partners, Non governmental Organizations, spirited individuals and donor agencies.

The Deputy Governor commended the step taken by the Norwagian Delegation to come and see the projects, and how the funds are being expended.

He appealed for more projects from the Norwagian Government in view of the fact that the peaceful nature of Gombe State in the North East region has made immigrants find refuge in the state thereby overstretching the limited resources and facilities.

In his remarks, the First Secretary of the Norwagian Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Trygve Aurdal-Vold intimated the Deputy Governor that they were in the state to inspect projects being sponsored by the Norwagian Government.

He said, they will pay a courtesy visit on Emir of Deba, and also meet with Government Officials, Civil Society Organizations, and other stakeholders as well as those involved in the project implementation.

He commended the state government and the Civil Society Organizations for performing very well in spite of the Covid-19 and other challenges.

In their separate remarks, the UNFPA Representative, Dr. Audu Alayade highlighted on their major activities, stating that the project started in 2018 with the responsibility of preventing child marriages, maternal mortality, child abuse, gender based violence as well as encourage family planning among others.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Special Adviser to Gombe state Governor on Budget, Planning and Development Partner Coordination Office, Dr. Ishiyaku Mohammed, explained that the Norwagian Government is collaborating with the Government of Gombe State on Integrated approach to empowering adolescent girls and women in Gombe and Akwa Ibom States through access to Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.

The delegation was led by the Commissioner of Health Gombe State, Dr. Habu Dahiru in company of the Executive Secretary, State Primary Health, Dr. Abdulrahaman Shuaibu among others.
