The Nigerian
Television Authority NTA has suspended coverage of all activities of Nigeria police in Bauchi
This follows the physical assault by a police officer on the NTA reporter in the course of carrying out his Constitution duty at Abubakar TAfawa Balewa Stadium
The General Manager NTA Bauchi Suleman Ibrahim Ahmad made their position known during a press conference enjoined colleagues in the other media to do same because an injury to one is an injury to all
“As an interim measure the Nigerian Television Authority will cease to cover all activities that involve and concern the police force”
Suleman Ibrahim Ahmad described the attack in the media as an attack to democracy in the country
The General Manager used the medium to call on all media houses in the state to boycott the activities of the police to serve as deterrent to others
Suleman Ahmad explained that over the years NTA has been working with the Nigeria police and other security operatives and wondered why the assault
He commented the state chairman NUJ comrade Umar Saidu for his prompt action in the matter and assured that NTA staff would continue to uphold high standard of ethics and discipline at all times while discharging their Constitutional responsibility
All efforts to contact the state police public relations officer SP Ahmad Wakil prove abortive as he did not pick calls and did not responded to the text message sent to him as at the time of filling this report
