The Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) preliminary has kicked-off at the Adamawa State University, Mubi in with five participating in different varsities sporting activities.
The games being played include football, Volleyball, Basketball, athletics, Judo among others.
The Universities under ‘Zone N’ are Taraba State University, Adamawa State University, Modibbo Adama University, Federal University of Technology Wukari, and American University Yola.
The host, Adamawa State University (ADSU) Mubi, in a football beat out Taraba State University with 2-1 in an encounter that attracted three Vice-Chancellors to make part of the spectators.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who also make part of the spectators at the opening ceremony charged the participating teams to use the tournament to foster unity among the universities.
The Governor, who was represented by his Chief-of-Staff, Professor Maxwell Gidado said, the present administration had been giving priority to sporting activities, emphasising the need for his government to sustain its support with a view to celebrating the games.
The host and Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta equally called on the participating teams to exhibit high sense of maturity by demonstrating sportsmanship in all games being played.
The Vice Chancellor who expressed delight over the turnout the participating universities assured of necessary support towards ensuring the success of the preliminary games.
Similarly, the Vice Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Professor Liman Tukur commended the authorities concerned for bouncing back the NUGA games with a view to fostering unity among the universities.
Our correspondent reports that the NUGA games tournament is scheduled to take place in March 2022 at the University of Lagos.
