Over 500 Cataract Patients Gets Free Treatment in Bauchi.

Over five hundred people across the twenty Local Government Areas of Bauchi State are to benefit from a free cataract surgery.

The three day Programme is a collaboration between the State Agency for Orphans and Vulnerable Children BASOVCA and a Saudi based Organization, Muslim World League.

Speaking at the inauguration of the exercise in the State Specialists Hospital, the State Governor Bala Mohammed said the move was to address the plights of the patients through provision of the free treatment.

Bala Mohammed who was represented by Secretary to the State Government Barr. Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim said the state government has paid it counterpart fund including logistics and welfare of the patients.

A consultant from the Organization, Dr. Murtala Muhammad Umar said the selection of  Bauchi among the three benefiting states  followed realization of the state government’s commitment towards improving the wellbeing of it people.

According to him, the surgery is very expensive and most of the patients cannot afford it without the support from government and relevant bodies.

In separate remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Bauchi State Specialists Hospital Dr. Ya’u Hameed and Chairperson of the BASOVCA Mr. Hassan Arkila enjoined people especially those with the eye problem to take advantage of the exercise.

Some of the beneficiaries commended the State Government and the Muslims World League for the humanitarian gesture.
