Over one hundred and forty athletes from Bauchi State are to take part in the National Para Sports Festival scheduled to commence from April 9 to 15 2022 in federal capital territory Abuja.
The athletes are to represent the state in various events of football, basketball, Volleyball and canoe sports among others.
The State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development Alh. Adamu Manu Soro made this known in a farewell message to the state contingents before they depart to Abuja ahead of the tournament.
Adamu Manu Soro said the athletes will be accompanied by thirty seven coaches, security personnel as well as over 30 helpers who would be assisting them in view of their various forms of disabilities.
While commending the state government for approving the engagement of people with special needs in the national tournament, the Commissioner noted that the contingents received all the needed support and encouragements from government.
” The administration of Governor Bala Mohammed has special interest in empowering people with special needs and Sports is one of the key areas to engage them”
He called on the athletes to reciprocate the gesture by justifying the investment through winning medals.
In his address, the Director, Bauchi State Sports Council Lawal Garba said the athletes have undergone series of training ahead of the National Para-Sports Festival.
” Because we understand their challenges of disabilities, we exposed them in various forms of trainings to enable them perform better”
