ROHI organises Spelling Competition to enhance literacy in Borno.

In continuation for the commemoration of the 2023 International Day of Education, a Non Governmental Organization Restoration of Hope Initiative (ROHI) in Collaboration with UNICEF and Education Cannot Wait organised Spelling B Competition to enhance literacy level of Pupils in Borno State.

Programme Manager ROHI, Benjamin John said a lot of assessment have revealed the low literacy rate of Pupils in the Primary Schools in the State which the Spelling B is in tandem with supporting the Pupils.

Mr Benjamin John explained that about sixteen (16) Schools were selected across three (3) local government area of Borno State which the Schools compete each other and two (2) finalists emerged.

He added that they would expand the Competition due to the impact observed in the maiden event and called on the interested Schools to reach out to them as they are earmarking Schools ahead of next one.

Programme Manager ROHI further added that this is part of the response to Education in emergency adopted by partners in progress to strengthen education of States affected by Insurgency.

Chairman Borno State Universal Basic Education Board (BOSUBEB) was represented by Permanent Commissioner of the Board, Alhaji Sadiq Abdallah commended the participating Schools especially the winning School and urged them to maintain feat.

The Chairman BOSUBEB said Borno State Government has been putting facilities to revamp the education through building of mega Schools, rahabilitation of devastated ones as well as capacity building for Teachers and recruitment of new ones.

He said Borno State Government shall continue to collaborate with these development partners to strengthen the education in Borno’s recovery phase and appeal to them to extend the gesture to Schools in the rural areas.

Galtimari Primary and Junior Secondary School of Jere local government of Borno State emerged victorious in the Spelling B Competition and was presented with a trophy along other presentation.
