UBEC support funds disbursement flaggs off in Gombe

Gombe State Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, has flagged off the Northern phase of 2019 School Based Management Committee-School Improved Program Implementation and disbursement of UBEC Support Fund to beneficiary Communities.
Performing the flag off at the new Banquet Hall, Government House, Gombe, the Deputy Governor commended the initiative of the federal government towards enhancing the development of education in the state.
He described the flag off of the SBMC-SIP as a welcome development, assuring of the administration’s desire to support by partnership and collaboration with partners.
The Federal Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu represented by the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba explained that the UBE Program is Community based and stakeholder driven in nature and therefore requires collective approach for it’s successful implementation bearing in mind that education delivery is pivotal to any meaningful national development.
He reiterated that, recent global events have reawakened the need to improve governance and accountability in the education sector through decentralization and proper devolution of responsibilities to structures and groups closer to the schools.
He assured that government is committed to laying a solid foundation for education as well as creating an enabling environment for effective involvement of key players in the improvement of education service delivery in the country.
The Minister called on the beneficiary Communities and stakeholders to make judicious use of the funds and see the schools as their properties that can be protected jealousy.
In their separate remarks, the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi , and the Acting Director Social Mobilization, UBEC, Dr. Ossom M. Ossom appreciated the Minister of Education and the Gombe State government for contributing to the flag off of the program in Gombe.
The Executive Secretary explained that the implementation of the program started with training of Master Trainers comprising of SUBEB Directors of Social Mobilization and SBMC Desk Officers, then carried out sensitization of stakeholders, verification of information supplied by prospective beneficiary school’s that applied for the 2019 funds and the cluster training of SBMC -SIP project implementation sub Committee among others.
Highlight of the event include presentation of checks to beneficiary schools in the state.
The School Based Management Committee is a program of the Federal Government geared towards establishing a result oriented mechanism for quality basic education delivery in Nigeria, where the local actors are to take responsibility and ownership of education delivery services in their domains.
