UN Women, Peace and Security: Communities in Bauchi local government restate commitment to success of campaign.

Liman Katagum communities in Bauchi local government have restated commitment to support the campaign against Sexual and Gender-based violence as well as inclusion of Women in Peace, Security and governance for the rapid development of the state.

They made the commitment during a townhall meeting on Masculinity Norms; the role of men in promoting women’s participation organised by International Alert held at Liman Katagum.

One of them and Ward Head of Liman Katagum Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar Gani said the UN Women campaign has helped alot in reducing the rate of sexual and gender based violence in the area.

Abubakar Gani who is also fhe State Assistant Coordinator HeforShe disclosed that court cases in his domain reduced drastically as people now chose to go for out of court settlement.

Also Speaking, the Liman Katagum Women Mediators Network leader Malama Jummai Abdullahi and the Principal Government Junior Secondary school Liman Katagum Abubakar Waziri who decried rampant cases of social vices among youth, said the campaign helped in reducing the rate of forced or child marriages, rape and other ills.

In separate remarks, the Councillor of Liman Katagum ward Sirajo Isa and the Officer in charge of Civil Defence in the area Assistant Superintendent Usman Ahmad who said women contributealot in sharing of useful intelligence information and representation in party activities, called for their recruitment into security agencies.

Earlier, the State Manager International Alert Jennifer Dashe, State Coordinator HeforShe Jinjiri Garba and Chairperson Women Mediators Network Hajiya Binta Adamu called for the inclusion of more women in decision making process, as well as peace and security issues to ensure equity.
