Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba during a media briefing in Maiduguri as part of activities to mark the 24th Combined Convocation.

The Vice Chancellor University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba says a total of 33,439 students would be graduating during the forthcoming twenty fourth combined convocation ceremony.
Professor Shugaba made this known at a media briefing in Maiduguri.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the graduating students are from 2018/2019, 2019/2020, and 2020/2021 academic sessions.
He explained this is the first time in five years the institution is organising convocation ceremony, attributing the delay to Covid-19 pandemic, incessant strike action by the academic staff Union and inadequate funding.
“the Endowment fund will be re-launched and Honourary Doctorate degrees will be conferred on four distinguished personalities: The Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, Shehu of Borno Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai Elkanemi, Abdul Samad Rabiu and former registrar of the University, Dahiru Bobbo” Shugaba said.
Professor Aliyu Shugaba highlighted other activities lined up for the ceremony to include Convocation lecture to be delivered by the former Chairman of Independent Electoral Commission INEC Professor Attahiru Jega, investiture of the new Chancellor and inauguration some landmark projects.
He added that three Professors Emeriti will also be appointed including former Vice Chancellor Abubakar Mustapha.
“The University of Maiduguri will continue to strive to maintain a high standard of education and research. The institution has gained recognition for producing individuals who contribute significantly to various sectors and make a positive impact in society ” he added.
The Vice Chancellor expressed commitment of the University to enhance the quality of teaching and learning and explore partnership and collaboration to foster academic excellence, promote innovation and address societal change.
