Over fifty youth selected from various wards in Bauchi metropolis have expressed readiness to use all available platforms towards promoting peace in their communities.
Similarly, they called on Bauchi State Government to provide avenue for youth inclusion in governance and decision making process.
They made the commitment in Bauchi at the end of a two day step down training on Peace Building and Conflict Prevention organised by International Alert in Collaboration with European Union, Bauchi State Government and Taimako Community Development Initiative.
A Facilitator and Coordinator Bauchi Youth Peace Mentors Comrade Usman Mansoor said the training was aimed to instill necessary skills on conflict prevention, resolution and Peace building among the participants, hence the need for them to effect changes in their various localities.
Usman Mansoor noted that the organisation is a platform for all youth willing to contribute towards ensuring lasting peace and development of the state and the country in general.
Other participants spoken to Umar Ibrahim Mauɗo a member of Nigerian Youth Parliament and Ra’aima Nuhu a Radio Presenter promised to use their platforms to engage youth in constructive discussions on issues hindering their participation in community development and civic governance.
In separate remarks, the representative of the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Usman Abubakar and Director Youth Development in the ministry Mrs Paulina Logji who commended youth for being innovative and creativity, charged them to channel their talents towards positive development.
Earlier, the Convener of the training and Senior Project Officer International Alert Mr Sunday Jimoh said the training which is under the Youth Arise project seeks to ensure the inclusion of youth in conflict prevention, peace building, community development as well as political and civic governance.
Also Speaking, the Project Manager Taimako Community Development Initiative Alhassan Lawan who underscored the role of youth in peace building, urged them to step down the knowledge gained to their peers for the development of the society.
Similar trainings were held in Gamawa local government area of Bauchi as well as Damaturu and Gujba local government areas of Yobe State.
