By Ya’u Waziri

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has highlighted significant achievements in the health, education, and agriculture sectors as part of activities marking the sixth anniversary of his administration.

In a statewide broadcast from the Council Chamber of the Government House, Governor Inuwa revealed that his administration has delivered a fully equipped Primary Healthcare Centre in each of the state’s 114 wards. In addition, about 440 primary healthcare workers and 145 midwives have been recruited and strategically deployed to underserved communities to improve maternal and child health services.

The governor also spoke on the comprehensive upgrade of Gombe Specialist Hospital, renovations of the General Hospitals in Bajoga and Kaltungo, and the construction of a new state-of-the-art General Hospital in Kumo—now elevated to a Federal Medical Centre by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

To address manpower gaps, the state government established a 1,000-capacity School of Nursing Sciences and launched the Gombe State Contributory Health Scheme (Go-Health), which has enrolled over 369,000 people—including about 100,000 vulnerable citizens receiving free healthcare.

On education, Governor Inuwa said a state of emergency declared in the sector led to the construction and renovation of over 1,600 classrooms in 350 schools, alongside the recruitment of over 1,000 qualified teachers.

Under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) program, over 350,000 out-of-school children have been enrolled into the formal education system through the establishment of modern Integrated Almajiri Tsangaya Centres across the state’s 11 local government areas in the state.

In the agriculture sector, the governor reiterated that his administration continues to support farmers and herders through the distribution of fertilizers and farm inputs, animal vaccination campaigns, and conflict resolution strategies.
