In a bid to promote household-level agriculture and empower families across Adamawa State, the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Lami Fintiri, has officially launched the Every Home is a Garden initiative.
The programme, driven by her Fresh Air Pro-Life Empowerment Foundation FAPEF, is part of a nationwide collaboration under the Renewed Hope Initiative spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The launch ceremony took place at the Banquet Hall of the Government House,Yola attracting government officials, development partners, and grassroots beneficiaries.
Themed Let’s Make Our Homes Greener and More Self-Sufficient, One Garden at a Time, the event spotlighted the power of home gardening as a tool for food security, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability.
Delivering the keynote address, Hajiya Lami Fintiri commended the Renewed Hope Initiative for its bold approach to empowering women and supporting families.
She also expressed gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for partnering in the effort to promote home-based food production.
In a show of support from the state government, Neido Kofulto, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, highlighted the multi-faceted benefits of turning homes into green spaces.
According to her, the initiative not only addresses hunger but also fosters economic independence and environmental responsibility.
Adding his voice, Special Adviser to the Governor on Food Security, Dishi Kobe, applauded Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his consistent investment in agricultural development in the state.
To inspire participation and celebrate early success stories, a documentary was screened during the event.
It featured individuals who had already embraced the home gardening culture by cultivating vegetables within their compounds.
Their dedication was rewarded: the third-place winner received a cash prize of three hundred thousand Naira, the second-place winner Five hundred thousand Naira, while the top performer walked away with one million Naira
The event served as both a celebration and a call to action encouraging households to contribute to national food security, one garden at a time.
