Minister Applauds TRIMING Intervention Scheme, Fights Gender-Based Violence

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has commended the successes achieved in the Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING) Project, particularly in preventing gender-based violence.

The Minister disclosed during the Gender Mainstreaming/Gender-Based Violence Success Stories Dissemination Workshop in Kano.

The minister represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Richard Pheelangwa, highlighted notable achievements under the TRIMING Project.

He said the numerous achievements includes Institutionalization of Gender-Based Violence Response: Development and implementation of GBV Action Plans, Women’s Leadership in Water Users Association (WUAs): Significant number of women leaders in WUAs.

Other Achievements includes Women’s Empowerment in Irrigation Management: Women actively participating in irrigation management,Capacity Building and Behavioral Change: Training programs on gender sensitivity and GBV prevention.

The Permanent Secretary, represented by the Deputy Director Irrigation, Hauwa Muhammad, called on participants to recommit to promoting gender justice, defending the vulnerable, and building inclusive systems.

She maintained that The TRIMING Project has made significant strides in promoting gender equality and preventing GBV.

” The workshop served as a platform for stakeholders to share success stories and recommit to promoting gender justice and inclusive systems.”

The workshop was attended by stakeholders from various organizations, including the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, state Ministries of Women Affairs, Hadejia/Jamma’are River Basin Development Authority, and the World Bank.
