In a bid to improve agricultural productivity, the Yobe State Government has approved the distribution of 40 units of Massey Ferguson 375-horsepower tractors for the farmers and farmers’ associations across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.
While presenting the letters of allocation to the beneficiaries in Damaturu, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Agriculture, Ali Mustapha Goniri, said the initiative under the directive of Governor Mai Mala Buni, aims at boosting the capacity of food production in the state.
The Commissioner announced that the government would also sell fertiliser at a 50% subsidised rate. Notably, all other inputs, including tractors, threshers, and solar power water pumps, have been distributed free of charge to farmers.
Goniri urges beneficiaries to make judicious use of the equipment and inputs to ensure improved yields and sustainable agricultural practices.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Engr. Lawan Maisanda Matawalle expressed gratitude to Governor Buni for his continuous support.
He added that the government intervention in the agricultural sector will have a positive impact towards ensuring food sufficiency and security in the state.
