The Bauchi State Government has organised an annual lecture and prayer in honour of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, held at his tomb in Bauchi.
Speaking after the prayer session, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed stated that the state government would continue to uphold the noble legacies of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who was represented by the Commissioner for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Abdul Hassan, explained that the vision of the late Prime Minister for a united and prosperous Nigeria would continue to inspire citizens in the areas of education, infrastructure, and economic growth.
He described the late Prime Minister as a dedicated Nigerian whose service fostered unity and freedom in the country.
“As Government of Bauchi State we commomerate his life and achievement to remember the values of unity and cohesion of our nation, overcoming all challenges that threatened to devide our peace and harmony within our community and across our nation. The developmental foundation laid by Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and striving for sustainability that benefits both Nigerians irrespective of our ethnic devide patriotism to the service of our nation inspired by his selfless dedication to common good he up held, may the sprite of the legacies of Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa continue to be our guide as we navigate the challenges and opportunity that lay ahead of our State”
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, Gadau, Professor Fatima Tahir, announced that the university had concluded plans to establish the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Centre for Peace and Security Studies.
Professor Fatima Tahir said the centre will focus its research on the life and legacy of the late Prime Minister.
Professor Fatima Tahir, represented by the pioneer Director of the Centre, Dr. Yusuf Ahmed pledged the support of all relevant stakeholders for the successful establishment of the centre.
In a goodwill message the Northeast Zonal Director Nigeria Deposit Insurance Cooperation NDIC Alhaji Ajiya Bazarma assured that the cooperation would continue to support Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Museum and Gallery of his life and times.
Speaking on behalf of Commissioner Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the permanent Secretary of the Ministry Madam Liatu Gayus said the annual comomeration and Prayer is a testiment of a deep respect and honour the state has for the late Prime Minister.
Alhaji Abdul Hassan explain that the events is an opportunity to reflect on the contribution of the late Prime Minister to the nation and draw inspiration from his remarkable life for future generations to emulate.
“Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was a visionary leader who believe in the potentials of our nation. He champion education and cultural development recognizing their crucial role in national development”
He Commended the State government for given approval for the total renovation of the Tomb of the inspirational leader.
The Commissioner assured that the Ministry would continue to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage in the state to the whole world.
” Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa history is a testiment to the power of hardwork, dedication and selfless service to humanity. Through decumentary, prayers and other activities we hope to keep his memory alive and inspire future generations to follow his life and legacies and strive to build a better future for our self and our great nation “
During the event Sheik Danazumi Musa Tafawa Balewa, Sheik Kabir Al-Araby and representative of the State CAN Chairman offers prayers for the repose of the late Prime Minister’s soul.
Late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa the First Prime Minister of Nigeria was born on 12 December, 1912 and was abducted and assassinated on 15th January, 1966. During a Military Coup.
