BAHA Calls for Action on Bridge Collapse, Reckless Motorcycle Riding

Bauchi State House of Assembly has called for urgent government intervention over the collapse of a major bridge that linked several communities in Toro Local Government Area.

Similarly, the house rises concern over the menace of reckless motorcycle riding in Bauchi metropolis.

During plenary, presided by the the speaker Abubakar Sulaiman, member representing Toro/Jama’a Constituency, Hamza Sa’idu, urged state government to immediately commence emergency reconstruction of the collapsed bridge at Falama Ward, which links Gandi, Zakshi and Kufai communities.

He said heavy rainfall recently destroyed the bridge, leaving an estimated 17 to 20 thousand residents stranded and disrupting farming, trading and transport activities between Bauchi and Plateau States.

In another motion under matters of urgent public importance, member representing Sade Constituency, Lawal Dauda, raised concern over increasing cases of dangerous motorcycle riding, including overspeeding, one-way driving, removal of silencers and unnecessary horning.

He lamented a recent accident at Fadamar Mada where a one-way violator hit a family of four, causing one death and multiple injuries.

The Speaker of the House Abubakar Sulaiman directed the Clerk of the House to communicate both resolutions to the executive arm for immediate action, while urging security agencies, community leaders and residents to support efforts in addressing the problems.
