The Nigerian Red Cross Society, (NRCS) with support from the British Red Cross, has distributed flood preparedness materials to more than two thousand trained households in Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The distributed items include chlorine, rain boots, raincoats, torchlights, blankets, umbrellas, jerrycans, Oral Rehydration Salts, zinc tablets, and Oral Rehydration Therapy packs to strengthen community resilience against floods.
Speaking at the presentation in Kirfin Kasa, the State Chairman of NRCS, Alhaji Aminu Abubakar, said the support was to complement the state government’s efforts in addressing challenges in flood-prone communities.
He explained that Kirfi Local Government Area had recorded the highest level of flood impact in Bauchi State, hence the NRCS found it necessary to intervene with available assistance.
The State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Yakubu Wanka, represented by Adama Ibrahim, commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society for prioritising the welfare of Kirfi residents and urged beneficiaries to utilise the items effectively.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Hafsat Musa, Muhammad Hudu, Murtala Sa’idu, and Hafsatu Danladi, expressed appreciation for the gesture, pledging proper use of the items. Another beneficiary, Musa Buba Aliyu, warned against misuse or sale of the materials.
