President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved one hundred and fifty-eight billion naira to reposition the country’s education sector, with emphasis on technical and vocational education training for national development.
Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmed, announced this in Sokoto during the 42nd convocation and 50th anniversary celebration of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
She explained the funds form part of the President’s education-focused Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to enhance technical, vocational, and digital skills training for young Nigerians.
The Minister said the initiative aims to empower at least six hundred and fifty thousand youths with skills relevant to emerging industrial demands and labour market requirements nationwide.
Professor Sabuwa Ahmed also disclosed that some universities will benefit from electricity supply through the Rural Electrification Agency, including Usmanu Danfodiyo University, to enhance academic productivity and learning.
During the convocation, honorary degrees were awarded to Sheikh Muhammad Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa and retired Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, while Professor Dejo Abdulrahman received emeritus status.
