In a renewed effort to curb youth unemployment and boost grassroots economic development, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has empowered over 500 young men and women with ₦150,000 each to kick-start or grow their small-scale businesses.

The initiative, flagged off at the Coronation Hall of the Government House in Kano, marks a significant milestone in the administration’s ongoing youth empowerment campaign.

Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to fulfilling campaign promises focused on youth development and entrepreneurship.

He noted that the program aims not only to provide financial assistance but also to spark a wave of innovation and self-reliance among Kano’s energetic youth population.

The beneficiaries, selected from all 44 local government areas of the state, were chosen to ensure fairness and broad-based inclusion. According to the Governor, the program is a strategic investment in the state’s future, as it empowers young people to become contributors to the economy rather than dependents on it.

“We are not just investing in individuals; we are investing in the future of Kano,” Governor Yusuf declared. “Empowering the youth is central to our agenda, and I have no regrets in ensuring that these promises are being fulfilled.”

Governor Yusuf further expressed optimism that the ₦150,000 grants would serve as seed capital to turn dreams into sustainable businesses. He assured that this was only the beginning, as his administration plans to expand the initiative to reach even more youths in future phases.

The Governor also urged recipients to be disciplined and strategic in the use of the funds. He emphasized the need for long-term thinking and innovation, encouraging the beneficiaries to aspire not only to self-employment but also to become employers of labour within their communities.

Several beneficiaries shared heartfelt messages of gratitude, calling the program a timely intervention in a tough economy.
