The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has launched a solar streetlight installation project across various schools, markets, hospitals, media houses, and communities in Yobe State, aiming to enhance public safety, security, and sustainable development.
The initiative, part of NEDC’s post-insurgency recovery efforts, covers all 17 local government areas of Yobe State.
Beneficiary locations include newly constructed Mega and Model Schools, Specialist Hospitals, General Hospitals, and rural communities.

Speaking on the impact of the project, a beneficiary of NEDC’s solar-powered streetlight installation and maintenance training, Mustapha Mohammed Gujba, said, “The initiative has been a game-changer for our community, enhancing security and promoting sustainable development.”
The project has illuminated key areas, including media institutions like NTA, YBC, YTV, and Sunshine FM Radio, enhancing their operations.
NEDC’s team, led by Managing Director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, has collaborated with the Yobe State Government and stakeholders to drive recovery and development efforts.
Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration has supported the initiative, which has brought peace and sustainability to the region.
The NEDC’s efforts have been praised by beneficiaries, who acknowledge the positive impact on their lives and communities.
The solar streetlight project is seen as a significant step towards rebuilding and developing Yobe State.
