Governor Buni Signs Yobe’s N515.5bn 2026 Budget into Law

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has signed the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, marking a key milestone in the state’s fiscal and development planning.

Speaking at the event held in Government House, Damaturu, shortly after signing the appropriation bills, “Tagged “BUDGET OF ECONOMIC GROWTH AND INFRASTRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATION”,Governor Buni commended the Yobe State House of Assembly for the diligent and timely passage of the budget,

He described the process as a clear demonstration of harmony, cooperation and a shared vision between the executive and legislative arms of government in the interest of the people.

The Governor disclosed that the budget, initially proposed at N583 billion, was revised downward to N515.532 billion.

He explained that the adjustment was made to reflect fiscal realism and necessity, while ensuring that government spending remains targeted and impactful.
“Out of the approved sum, N291 billion has been earmarked for capital expenditure, reflecting the administration’s strong focus on development projects”.

According to the Governor, the 2026 budget maintains a balanced allocation between recurrent and capital spending.

Buni said the 2026 fiscal plan prioritises education, integrated development and initiatives aimed at improving the overall quality of life of citizens across the state.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, transparency and strict budgetary discipline, pledging that Yobe State would continue to lead in fiscal transparency in Nigeria, as acknowledged by independent assessments.

To ensure effective implementation, the Governor announced the introduction of additional control measures to enhance financial prudence, minimise leakages and strengthen internal revenue management.

He added that the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, alongside the Ministries of Budget, Planning and Finance, would provide policy direction and ensure robust monitoring and evaluation of budget performance.

Governor Buni stressed that delivering tangible and measurable results to the people of Yobe State remains a collective responsibility of all arms and levels of government.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, has lauded Governor Buni for his collaborative relationship with the legislature following the Governor’s assent to the 2026 Finance and Appropriation Bills.

Hon. Mashio described the assent as a significant constitutional milestone that gives legal effect to the collective will of the Assembly and provides a solid framework for effective governance.

He further acknowledged proactive measures taken by the state government to cushion economic hardship, such as agricultural support programmes, conditional cash transfers and the distribution of relief materials to vulnerable citizens.

The speaker added that the Governor’s confidence in the legislative arm has strengthened democratic governance in the state, as reflected in an inclusive and transparent budget process.
