The Kano State Government has dismissed as false and politically motivated allegations by Buba Galadima accusing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Kano State Command, of suppressing opposition voices.
In a press briefing the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described Galadima’s claims as “reckless, malicious and politically contrived,” insisting that the state government has not at any time directed security agencies to harass or intimidate political opponents.
The government said the allegations surfaced shortly after Governor Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress and followed Galadima’s removal as Chairman of the Board of Kano State Polytechnic. It maintained that the removal was based strictly on administrative considerations relating to performance and competence, and not for political reasons.
According to the statement, the administration remains committed to protecting fundamental rights, including freedom of expression as guaranteed by the Constitution.
However, it stressed that freedom of expression does not extend to defamation, incitement or the deliberate spread of false information capable of threatening public peace.
The government further stated that security agencies, including the DSS, operate within their constitutional mandates and are not subject to political manipulation.
It warned against what it described as a growing trend of “weaponised misinformation” on social media, adding that while constructive criticism is welcome, deliberate attempts to destabilise the state through false narratives will not be tolerated.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic principles, the rule of law and peaceful coexistence, the Kano State Government said it would continue to support security agencies in maintaining law and order while safeguarding the rights and dignity of residents.
