NSCDC Arrests Six Suspected Railway Vandals in Kano

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested six suspected vandals for allegedly tampering with railway infrastructure in Kiru Local Government Area of the state.

State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Kano, noting that the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence and sustained surveillance operations by operatives of the Command.

He said the suspects were caught in the act of illegally removing railway slippers, describing the offence as economic sabotage capable of endangering public safety and hindering national development.

The suspects were identified as Sulaiman Salisu, 45; Musa Aliyu Harisu, 22; Ishaq Alhassan, 20; Isa Aminu, 35; Sadiq Bala, 20; and Mansur Idris, 22, all said to be indigenes of Kaduna State.

Items recovered from the suspects include vandalised railway slippers, 60 nuts used in fastening the slippers, as well as tools allegedly used in carrying out the act. The tools comprise a 50kg gas cylinder, a 5kg gas cylinder, and a 20-metre hose.

According to the NSCDC, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been involved in similar activities, with the intention of selling the materials for personal gain.

The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, warning that acts of vandalism would be met with decisive legal action.
It added that the suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
