The Yobe State Government has approved the automatic employment of 416 nurses and midwives who recently graduated from the Shehu Sule College of Nursing Sciences, Damaturu.
Governor Mai Mala Buni announced the approval during the official graduation ceremony held on Tuesday in Damaturu.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, said the move is aimed at addressing personnel shortages and improving healthcare service delivery across the state.
The newly employed graduates include 158 Community Nurses, 196 Basic Nurses and Midwives, as well as 62 Higher National Diploma holders in Nursing.
Governor Buni noted that the state government’s sustained investment in the college over the past seven years has yielded significant benefits, describing it as impactful and worthwhile to the people of Yobe State.
He added that the government has employed over 3,500 healthcare workers in recent years, many of whom are graduates of the institution, to strengthen the healthcare system with qualified professionals.
Earlier, the Provost of the College, Hajiya Hadiza Sabo, revealed that between 2019 and 2026, the institution graduated a total of 1,485 students, all of whom were granted automatic employment upon completion of their studies.
She added that the policy has greatly enhanced the recruitment, deployment, and retention of healthcare personnel in the state.
