The Bauchi State Government has organized a five-day capacity-building training for Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Administration and Human Resources on core administrative functions.
Declaring the training open, the State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Auwal Jatau, described the workshop as historic, noting that such a programme had not been held for over two decades.
Rt. Hon Auwal Jatau explained that the training demonstrates the present administration’s commitment to strengthening the capacity of the civil service as the engine room of government operations.
He said no meaningful development can be achieved without a competent and efficient civil service.
The Deputy Governor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustained investment in civil service reforms and urged participants to cascade the knowledge acquired to improve efficiency and service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies.
Speaking, the State Head of Civil Service, Barrister Muhammad Sani Umar, said one of the key priorities of the current administration is the reform and modernization of the civil service.
He explained that the training focuses on core administrative functions, including preparation of Executive Council memoranda, minute writing, speech drafting, and report writing among others.
According to him, the workshop is expected to bridge existing gaps in critical administrative areas and enhance clarity, accuracy, and effectiveness in official communication.
“I urge you to actively participate, engage meaningfully with the experienced resource persons, and take full advantage of the wealth of knowledge to be shared,” he said.
Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Dauda Shuaibu, noted that the success of any civil service system depends largely on the quality of its workforce.
He emphasized that a well-trained, fair, and responsive administrative system promotes industrial harmony, boosts morale, and enhances productivity.
“This training on foundational aspects of the civil service provides a valuable opportunity to deepen your knowledge, strengthen your competencies, and align with best practices in public administration and human resource management,” he said.
He reiterated the importance of prioritizing workers’ welfare and adhering to established rules and regulations.
The State Chairman NLC use the medium to Commend Governor Bala Mohammed for approving the Implementation of 100 percent salary increase to Health workers in the State.
In his remarks, the Emir of Duguri, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri, commended the organizers for initiating the training, describing it as a timely effort to reposition the state civil service for improved service delivery.
He urged participants to make effective use of the opportunity in support of the government’s reform agenda.
