The Federal Government has called on Nigerians to prioritise the patronage of locally made products as part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s economy.

The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, made the appeal during the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Subnational Tour, Public, Private and Press (P3) Engagement held in Kano.

The minister said the engagement would provide a platform for small and medium enterprises to showcase their products, adding that increased visibility and patronage would enable such businesses to grow and thrive.

She noted that supporting local production remains critical to economic expansion, job creation and increased competitiveness within the African continental market.

In his remarks, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farooq Ibrahim, commended the Federal Government for choosing Kano to host the North-West geopolitical zone engagement.

He said Kano, with a population of over 20 million people, remains one of the largest economic hubs in Africa, stressing that the initiative would further enhance trade and investment opportunities in the state.
