Askira Exits 2027 Senate Race, Backs Ndume, Rules Out Assembly Return

The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Musa Askira, has withdrawn from the race for the Southern Borno Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Announcing his decision at a press conference in Maiduguri, Abdullahi Musa Askira said the move followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across the nine local government areas of Southern Borno.

He explained that after careful reflection, including discussions with the Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, he resolved to step aside in the interest of unity within the All Progressives Congress.

Hon. Askira has endorsed the incumbent Senator, Mohammed Ali Ndume, describing him as a leader with proven experience and commitment to the people.

“I wholeheartedly endorse Senator Ndume and call on all my supporters to close ranks and give him their unflinching support,” he stated.

He called on his supporters and party members to rally behind Ndume and work towards the success of the APC in the 2027 general elections.

The Deputy Speaker also announced that he will not seek re-election to the State House of Assembly, noting that the decision is to create room for new leadership and broader participation in governance.

He expressed appreciation to his supporters, political associates, and party leadership, including Vice President Kashim Shettima.and Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for their continued support.
