Experts Advocate Early Planting, Improved Seeds for Bumper Harvest in Gombe

Farmers in Gombe State have been advised to strictly adhere to predicted rainfall onset dates before commencing planting activities, to avoid crop losses caused by false rainfall onset.

The Permanent Secretary, Gombe State Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, Ahmed Sadiq, gave the advice while declaring open a one-day awareness and sensitisation programme on the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction organised for farmers in the state.

Ahmed Sadiq urged participants to pay close attention to the training and ensure that the knowledge acquired is disseminated to other farmers who were unable to attend the workshop.

He commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for approving the workshop aimed at educating farmers on seasonal rainfall predictions across the state.

Also speaking, a resource person at the event, Gayus Musa, encouraged farmers to plant early, improved varieties to ensure a bumper harvest.

One of the participants, Modibbo Nafada, described the sensitisation as timely and pledged to step down the knowledge gained to other farmers who could not attend the workshop.
