PRP Names Senator Shehu Buba as 2027 Bauchi Guber Candidate

By Abubakar Waziri

Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 elections in Bauchi State.

The lawmaker, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured the party’s ticket just 24 hours after joining the PRP. Buba had withdrawn from the APC governorship primary held on Friday, citing a lack of internal democracy and violations of both the party’s constitution and the national constitution.

Haruna Buhari, the PRP Deputy National Vice Chairman (North) who also coordinated the state primary election, officially announced Buba as the winner and the party’s gubernatorial candidate for Bauchi.

Buhari stated that the exercise was part of the PRP’s nationwide primary elections conducted across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, in line with party guidelines and electoral laws.

He further explained that Buba emerged as the sole cleared aspirant for the ticket and had met all constitutional and legal requirements for affirmation. “The party constitution provides for affirmation even where there is only one aspirant. The delegates must agree and return the candidate elected, and that process has been completed,” Buhari said.

According to Buhari, 766 delegates from the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State participated in the process and unanimously endorsed Buba as the party’s candidate.
