The Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed concerns that recent defections by some members could weaken the party, insisting that it remains united, focused and prepared to play a leading role in the state’s political landscape.

Addressing journalists at the party’s state secretariat along Zaria Road in Kano ,the State Chairman of the PDP, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, said the party’s structure remained intact despite the departure of some stakeholders to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said the PDP was committed to strengthening its grassroots support base and providing effective leadership capable of addressing the needs of the people.

Kibiya noted that the party had continued to demonstrate its commitment to democratic principles, citing the peaceful conduct of its recent primaries as evidence of internal unity and discipline.

According to him, the transparent process adopted during the exercise reflected the party’s dedication to fairness, accountability and due process.

The PDP chairman also condemned the disruption of activities surrounding the party’s special national convention in Abuja, describing the action as a threat to democratic practice and freedom of political association.

He called on relevant authorities and political actors to respect constitutional rights and ensure that democratic institutions are protected from interference.

Speaking on recent decisions taken by the party at the national level, Kibiya said the Kano chapter supports the resolutions of the PDP leadership, including decisions concerning the party’s presidential ticket.

He assured members that the state chapter would continue to work with the national leadership to advance the party’s objectives while promoting unity, good governance, improved security and economic opportunities for Nigerians.

He further urged party faithful to remain steadfast and committed to the PDP’s ideals, expressing confidence that the party would emerge stronger and continue to provide a credible platform for democratic participation and national development.
