The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to developing a comprehensive National Regional Development Policy aimed at enhancing economic growth, social development and balanced regional transformation across the country.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Regional Development Mary Ogbe Stated this at a Regional Technical Validation Workshop on the National Regional Development Policy, organized by the ministry in collaboration with UNDP held in Kano .
She said the workshop was designed to ensure the production of a well-articulated and people-centred policy capable of addressing developmental challenges and achieving national development goals.
According to her, the validation exercise provides stakeholders with the opportunity to critically review the draft policy and contribute ideas that would strengthen its implementation and impact.
Adah urged participants to actively engage in discussions and share their expertise to ensure the emergence of a robust regional development framework that reflects the aspirations and needs of Nigerians.
The Managing Director of the North West Development Commission, Shehu Abdullahi, commended the Federal Government and the United Nations Development Programme for facilitating the development of the policy.
Abdullahi described the validation workshop as timely, noting that a well-developed regional development policy would accelerate economic growth, create employment opportunities and improve the living standards of citizens.
The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Nigeria, Elsie Attafuah, represented by Enayaba Napholion, said the gathering was critical to shaping an inclusive and effective policy framework.
Napholion urged stakeholders to ensure that the final document remains people-centred and focused on delivering measurable outcomes that would advance sustainable development across the regions.
He reiterated UNDP’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of Regional Development in achieving its objectives and fostering inclusive growth throughout the country.
The workshop attracted participants and development experts from various parts of the country, who deliberated on strategies for strengthening regional development and promoting equitable socio-economic progress.
