Gombe Health Sciences and Technology Institute Graduates Dispensing Optometry Students

The Institute of Health Sciences and Technology at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, has graduated about fifty students from its School of Dispensing Optometry, with a call on them to apply the knowledge acquired during their studies in their future workplaces,

The school was accredited by the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN).

Speaking at the Orientation and Oath-Taking Ceremony, held at the Institute’s premises in Gombe, the Registrar of ODORBN, Dr Obinna Edwin Awiaka, urged the graduates to uphold professionalism and serve as role models within the health sector.

He emphasised the importance of commitment to professional ethics and service delivery.

Dr Awiaka commended the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for establishing the school, highlighting its role in addressing the shortage of skilled professionals in the state’s health sector.

In his address, the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, Professor Yusuf Muhammad Abdullahi, affirmed that the graduates had received the necessary academic and professional training to function effectively in various health institutions.

Professor Abdullahi urged them to demonstrate diligence in their work, applying their expertise to enhance healthcare delivery.

He also expressed gratitude to the Gombe gtate government for creating an enabling environment for the education and training of healthcare professionals, which he described as crucial in addressing existing challenges within the health sector.

Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Hafsat Muhammad Abdullahi encouraged fellow students to remain dedicated to their studies and strive for excellence in their chosen careers.

He expressed appreciation to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for providing them with the opportunity to become professional health workers.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards and cash prizes to outstanding students, including those recognised as the overall best in the graduating class.
