The 301 Artillery Regiment General Support, Gombe, has hosted the 2024 West African Social Activities (WASA) event at the old barracks in Gombe State.

The event aimed to strengthen military-civil relations and celebrate cultural diversity.

Speaking at the event, the Commander of the regiment, Colonel Abubakar Mohammed, emphasized the importance of cooperation between the military and the host community in addressing security challenges.

He urged residents to continue supporting the army through prayers and collaboration.

The Commander said the strength of the military is not only through the barrel of the weapon but the cooperation of the host community.

He noted that the regiment is responsible for internal security in Gombe State and works alongside Operation Haddi Kai and Operation Safe Haven to secure border areas with Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, and Bauchi states.

The WASA event featured various activities, including a tug-of-war, cultural performances by different ethnic groups, and a dance presentation by children from the barracks.

The Guest of Honour, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hara Foam, Emmanuel Ugwu, commended the Nigerian Army for fostering unity and recognizing the efforts of its personnel. He described WASA as a long-standing tradition that strengthens military-civil relations and motivates soldiers.

Chairman of the 2024 WASA Committee, Lieutenant Colonel Tonye Ibiama, appreciated the commander’s support, noting that this year’s event showcased the rich cultural heritage of various ethnic groups.
