Kano State House of Assembly has passed a bill aimed at regulating advert placement in the state.Tagged the, Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency Establishment Bill, 2025, the law seeks to establish a centralized agency to control and monitor all forms of advertising in Kano.
This was sequel to deliberations in the committee of the whole house and third reading by the clerk Alhaji Bashir Diso during plenary presided over by the speaker Alhaji Jibril Isma’il pm.The bill, will pave way for the establishment of the Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency.
The agency will be responsible for licensing and regulating all forms of advertising, including billboards, posters, and broadcast media.According to the Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala, the agency will ensure that all adverts conform to the state’s norms and culture.
He noted that the agency will also generate revenue for the state through licensed advert placements.The majority leader stated that, to ensure compliance, the agency will have the power to remove any unlicensed billboard or advert.
“The government will also provide designated areas for poster placement upon payment, with fines to be paid by defaulters”Lawan Hussaini stressed that, the agency will operate under the supervision of the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning.
Radio Nigeria reports that, once assented to by the governor, the bill will become law, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to regulate advert placement and promote a cleaner and more organized environment.The house adjourned it’s sitting to Monday 17th January 2025.
