5,340 farmers in Yobe State have benefited from 17 billion naira in farm inputs and equipment procured by the State Government.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ali Mustapha Goniri, stated this at a two-day training for extension agents that is organized by the Yobe State through the Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) as part of the government’s continued efforts to revitalize agricultural activities.
At the flag-off ceremony in Damaturu, the state capital, the Commissioner emphasized the state government’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector.
He charged the participants to make positive use of the knowledge acquired by sharing their experience with farmers in their local communities after the programme.
Mustapha Goniri added that the training aimed at ensuring self-reliance in food production, creating employment opportunities, and ensuring food security.
Also speaking at the second centre of the training that is ongoing in Gashua town, the headquarters of Bade Local Government Council, the Programme Manager of the ADP, Mallam Gana Adam, said the aim of organising the training and retraining of the extension agents is to equip them with the skills on how to improve to modern day farming system.
He pointed out that the participants were drowned from each of the 178 political wards across the state.
One of the facilitators, Ya’u Yelwa Mamudo, who delivered a lecture on the relationship between Extension Agents and Farmers, explained that the training will focus on equipping participants with the knowledge of modern farming techniques and how to disseminate the information to the farmers in their local communities.
Expressing appreciation on behalf of the participants, the Head of Natural Resources Geidam LGA Bukar Goni, who is also a participant and Mohammed Hussaini from Yusufari LGA, have commended Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration for prioritizing the Agricultural sector by conducting regular training for extension agents.
They further assured to make use of the knowledge acquired for the purpose intended by sharing the knowledge with the farmers at all levels.
