Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has flagged off the over seven billion naira revitalisation work on one hundred and eighteen primary healthcare facilities across the state.
During the same occasion, held at Kirfi Town PHC in Kirfi Local Government Area of the state, the Governor also launched six revitalised primary healthcare centres.
Radio Nigeria reports that the revitalisation work is being executed under the World Bank-assisted Immunisation Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating Coverage and Transforming Services (IMPACT) Project, implemented by Bauchi State’s Primary Health Care Board.
Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, reassured his government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through improved service quality and infrastructure.
He directed the State Commissioner for Health and the Executive Chairman of Primary Health Care Board to closely monitor the execution of the project and pledged to visit the revitalisation sites periodically to ensure contractors’ adherence to the contractual agreement.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Muyi Aina, represented by the agency’s Director of Communication, Kabiru Ladan, commended the state government for its commitment to strengthening primary healthcare services across communities.
The Task Team Lead at the World Bank Country Office – Nigeria, Mr Onoriode Ezire, stated that with the infrastructure and equipment put in place, the revitalised healthcare centres have the potential to provide quality healthcare services.
He called on religious and traditional leaders to use their societal influence to mobilise women and children to access the services available.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman of Kirfi Local Government, Abdulkadir Dewu, and the District Head of Kirfi, Alhaji Lawal Ladan, assured the public that they would take ownership of the rehabilitated health facilities and those yet to be completed for the benefit of the communities.
