Bauchi Gov’t wants new Appointees to revive Basic Education, reduce Out Of School Children.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Education, Dr Jamila Dahiru has charged the newly appointed Chairmen and members of boards under the ministry to work towards actualising the blueprint designed to improve the standard of education in the state.

Dr Jamila Dahiru who gave the charge while inauguration the appointees in Bauchi, said Governor Bala Muhammed’s passion to revive the education sector in the state led to the holding of an education summit last year.

She stressed the need for the new boards to work towards implementing all the recommendations made at the summit especially in ensuring every school aged children have access to education and reducing Out of School Children OOSC in the state to achieve the desired result.

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri, who thanked the Governor for the confidence repose in them, affirmed commitment to work as a team to address challenges bedeviling the education sector in the state.

The Chairmen and Members inaugurated cut across Boards and Agencies to include State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, Special Schools Management Board SSMB, Agency for Mass Education BASAME, Agency for Nomadic Education BASANE and Scholarship Board SLB.

Focusing on Human Resource Management

Meanwhile, the newly constituted Board of the State Universal Basic Education SUBEB says its policy drive will be centred on Teachers, Pupils and Staff management for the rapid transformation of the basic education subsector.

The Executive Chairman of the board, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri stated this at its maiden meeting with management and staff of the board in Bauchi.

Alhaji Adamu Duguri said the new board intends to focus on human resource management such as teachers and staff welfare as well as the the delivery of sound education to pupils instead of contract awards among others.

He urged the management and staff of the board to sut down and chart s way forward towards implementing the UN policy of educating every child in the state.

Earlier, the SUBEB Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Saleh Yakubu Ningi who described the appointment of the board as apt considering the state of basic education in the state, promised to give maximum support to enable the board succeed.

In a remark, the State Chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT, Comrade Aminu Nabalinga urged the new board to pursue the issue of bringing back the salaries of teachers and overheard cost to SUBEB in line with the provision of the act establishing the board.

On his part, the representative of the state Ministry of Justice and Legal Officer of the board Umar Musa Adamu called for the amendment of laws establishing the board and Teachers Service Commission in the recruitment of teachers in the basic education level.

Speaking on behalf of staff, the SUBEB Director Admin and Human Resource Saminu Muhammad Gidado congratulated the new board for the appointment and promised to join hands towards uplifting the standard of education in the state.

‘Role of Traditional Leaders’

The Executive Chairman Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, Alhaji Adamu Mohammad Duguri has called on traditional leaders to redouble efforts towards sustaining the ongoing reforms in the education sector.

Alhaji Adamu Duguri made the call during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu in his palace, said the aim was to synergise towards tackling the problem of out of school children and to ensure increased enrollment, retention and completion if school among children in the state.

He called for team work between SUBEB, traditional institutions and relevant stakeholders towards improving the basic education sub sector in the state.

The SUBEB Executive Chairman further reaffirmed commitment to ensure that all children in Bauchi state acquire sound Education to completion level with skills to become useful members of the society.

Responding, the Emir of Bauchi Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu reiterated the council’s commitment to support all policies and programme aimed at improving the education sector in the state.

Alhaji Rilwanu Adamu who said the Emirate has been sensitising District and Village Heads on the importance of education, noted that a lot is being done in the area of enrolment and retention.

He advised the new SUBEB and board members to take appropriate measures without compromise to achieve the set objectives.
