BUK CITAD commemorates IWD with policy brief and book launch

Bayero university Kano (BUK), has urged the society to stand behind women to achieve sustainable development.
The director center for gender studies (CGS), Dr Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmed made the indication during the 2024 international women’s day celebration and public presentation of policy brief and book launch held in BUK.
According to her,supporting women in all aspects would go a long way in developing their life,family and society to achieve the desired objectives.
She pointed out that, the center for gender studies CGS Bayero university Kano, is a knowledge base for the Improvement of the Situation of men, women and girls by analyzing their specific problems, needs and interests.
“It is Multidisciplinary in Nature and the center works with other Centers, various department in the University for teaching, research and training of students and members of the society on issues related to gender”
Dr. Suwaiba hinted that, the International womens day 2024 celebration was marked with a book launch on perspectives on gender digital marginality in Nigeria.
In her presentation titled:The imperative of mainstreaming gender for national development, a lecturer with the department of public law BUK, and a former Nigerian Ambassador to Romania, Ambassador Safiya Nuhu explained that, a research by world bank found out that only 47% of Nigerian women are represented in the work force.
She enumerated some of the benefits of empowering women to include economic, social, poverty reduction, improved health and education, peace and security, as well as achievement of sustainable development
In her keynote address,chairperson of the occasion who doubles as the executive director Adolescent health and information projects (AHIP),Hajiya Mairo Bello advised women to build their personal assets and skills.
She decried over lack of resilience by some women where they are often relegated to the back for being afraid to be levelled as educated.
The gender technical officer center for information technology and development (CITAD), Hajiya Zainab Aminu pointed out that the center trained 25 women on gender digital analysis.
She said the policy recommends that government,ICT related agencies and civil societies should come up with digital inclusion agenda, develop and implement organization gender policy as well as champion gender equality and collaborate with legislators to advance the five gender bills proposed to the 10th assembly.
Some of the participants who spoke to Radio Nigeria, Professor Sulaiman Yar’adua, Dr. Auwal Halilu, Maryam Ibrahim and Fatima mahmud described the event as apt.
Radio Nigeria reports that the event was organized by center for gender studies BUK in partnership with CITAD and FWANET.
