Federal Government has not lifted Restriction on foreign rice importation- Customs Boss.

Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, Comptroller Abdullahi Salisu Kazaure says the Federal Government has not lifted restriction on the importation of foreign rice.

The Comptroller, Abdullahi Salisu Kazaure stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria, Fombina news in Yola.

The Customs Area Controller Adamawa and Taraba Command, Abdullahi Salisu Kazaure explained that the importation of foreign rice is still under restriction, stressing that it is not allowed for people to import foreign rice.

According to him, the importation of foreign Rice will affect the economy negatively by killing Rice that are produced locally, emphasizing why the federal government places restrictions on importation of the commodity into the country to help it develop its local products.

Salisu Kazaure also emphasized that, there are other items that are restricted and banned such as tomatoe paste.

He added that there are legitimate ways and procedures of venturing into businesses, adding that the Nigeria Customs Service is always there to assist.

He pointed out that for now their borders are officially closed for the importation and exportation.

The Area Controller of the Customs Service also said that it is not in the interest of government to confiscate people’s property.

He therefore appealed to the public, especially the trading public to try as much as possible to look for legitimate ways of doing their businesses.
