Federal government trains Small holders farmers to enhance food production.

Federal government has restated its determination towards the continues training of Small holders farmers to boost food production in the Country.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Alhaji Abubakar Kyari stated this while flagging off Training and Empowerment of Women in Maize Production, Processing and its Marketing held in Kaduna.

Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security through the Department of Agric Extension Services Organised the Programme for Women in perticuler on all year round production of maize called ” Green Maize Training Workshop”

The Minister Represented by the Director, Department of Agric Extension Services, Mr Micheal Brooks said the purpose of the workshop was to train the women who were into maize production with the necessary techniques required for production of maize from the field, harvesting, storage and processing among others.

Alhaji Kyari also pointed that the workshop will also equipped the participants with the knowledge to improve food production across the country, adding that, sixty maize small holder farmers from Kaduna and plateau benefited from the one day training.

He lamented that, the only challenges affecting farming production was the issue of insecurity in the Northern part of the country while commending the effort of the present administration to address the menace.

The Minister also appealed to the participants to pay adquate attention during the training exercise to acquire the needed knowledge and skills to enhance their capacity.

In a remark, the Director General, Kaduna State Agricultural Development Agency, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Rilli appreciated Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for the initiative, saying that, Kaduna has been the center of maize production in the country.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Radio Nigeria expressed gratitude to the Federal government for organizing the training.

The participants were presented with startar Parks to boost their farming.
