Nigeria Association of Women journalists NAWOJ Bauchi state Chapter in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF Bauchi Field Office and Office of the First Lady has trained fifty women on importance of second chance education to mark 2024 International Women’s Day.

The trained women were selected from different adult education centres across the state.

The State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Hajiya Rashida Yusuf Muhammed said the training became imperative considering the number of women that were not opportune to acquire formal education before getting married.

Rashida Yusuf encourages the women to forge ahead and seek education regardless of their age and what society might say.

She also called on journalists to advocate women inclusion and participation in political and decision making in Nigeria.

In a remark one of the facilitators Mrs Lydia Shehu who highlighted the benefits of educating women in the society, urged the participants make judicious use of all they have learned.

Mrs Lydia Shehu who is also the Director General SDGs Bauchi state, said second chance education empowers women to be self reliant, create better society and promote gender equality.

One of the participants, Malama zainab Mohamed Adam appreciated NAWOJ and other partners for the opportunity and promised to make used of the knowledge acquired.

Another participant Maraja’atu Mohammed expressed delight saying she has benefited greatly from the training and called on other women at home to also break the jinx of illiteracy.

Our Correspondent reports that the participants were presented with reading and writing materials.
